How do I monitor a website or news page?

Most monitors start with websites: trade publications, local papers, company newsrooms and specialist blogs. Add the URL of the section that updates, not a generic homepage if a tighter path exists.

The page must be readable without your personal login. If you can only see the story after subscribing, SentryDock will not see it either.

To add a website:

  1. Open the monitor and find the source list.
  2. Add the public URL.
  3. Open the same URL in a private browser window. If it asks you to log in, do not rely on it.
  4. Save and wait for a run, then confirm a result links back to that site.

Good candidates

  • A ministry or regulator notices page.
  • A regional paper that covers a specific mine, port or plant.
  • A company press or operations update page that is public.

Poor candidates

Infinite homepages that mix sport, lifestyle and markets; sites that show a wall after three clicks; PDFs that only appear after a form. Prefer RSS if the site publishes a feed β€” it is usually cleaner.
